1 Executive summary

Bottom line: a solid, centered strike with his fastest 6-iron downswing on record (~0.22 s). Estimated from the video: ~77 mph club speed, ~106 mph ball speed, ~145 yds carry and ~149 yds total, in line with his best 6-iron (107 mph, 146 carry, 150 total).

The hips held their depth through impact for the third 6-iron report in a row, and the finish is balanced and held. The constant is still there: the head drops about 5 inches by impact, which adds loft and launch.

Strength

Speed and contact

Fast 0.22 s downswing, clean strike: the ball leaves the ground in the very next frame.

Priority 1

Stay tall

Keep the cap on its address line. Most of the 5-in dip happens early in the backswing.

Priority 2

Measure it

Next session, add the range-screen photo or a 240 fps slow-mo to confirm the speeds.

How these numbers were estimated:

Confidence: moderate on club speed and yardage (built on 3 earlier 6-iron reports with screen data), low–moderate on ball speed (no screen, single camera angle). Logged as estimates, not as personal bests.

3 Timing & tempo — measured from the video

30 frames per second, so each time is accurate to about ±0.03 s. Takeaway starts at 17.50 s, the club reaches the top at ~18.01 s, and impact is at 18.23 s.

GroupBackswingDownswingRatio
André (6-iron #4, today)~0.50 s~0.22 s~2.3:1
André (6-iron #3, Oct 14)~0.60 s~0.23 s~2.6:1
André (6-iron #2, Oct 18)~0.53 s~0.27 s~2:1

PGA Tour (Tour Tempo, "24/8")~0.80 s~0.27 s3:1

Tour figure: John Novosel, Tour Tempo. The hands peak at ~17.93 s while the club keeps loading to ~18.01 s; using the hands' peak, the ratio is ~1.8:1.

What it means: the downswing is quick and powerful. The backswing is a little shorter than in report #3; letting it finish (~0.6 s) would bring the rhythm back toward the 2.6:1 of his best 6-iron.

4 The reference frame — how this swing was measured

Reference frame
  • Grid: each square is about 5 inches, scaled from the golf ball's size on screen (~5.3 px per inch at the ball), so treat distances as ±1 inch.
  • Vertical center line (light green): the head's address position. Horizontal lines: the head height (white) and hip height (light green) at address.
  • Two corner diagonals (green): a fixed perspective scaffold for depth.
  • Paths: the red trail is the head and the yellow trail is the hands, frame by frame from address to impact. The red circle is the ball.
  • Body points were tracked automatically on every frame (48 frames, 17.0–18.6 s), then checked by eye at each key position. The camera is fixed.

6 Position-by-position biomechanics

Club: 6-Iron, as named by André (the sole isn't shown to the camera in this clip). Logged as report #4.

Photo 1 — Address Good

  • Balanced, athletic posture with the weight centered between the feet.
  • Hands just ahead of the clubhead, ball in a normal 6-iron spot (slightly ahead of center).
  • About 15–20 seconds of setup and waggles before the swing: he takes his time to settle and aim.

Photo 2 — Takeaway Good

  • A connected, one-piece start: the club, hands and chest move together.
  • The head starts to sink slightly (~1 in) as he loads.

Photo 3 — Lead arm parallel Watch

  • Lead arm parallel to the ground at about 0.2 s, wide and extended.
  • The head is now ~5 in lower than at address, the biggest dip of the backswing.

Photo 4 — Top Good

  • Full shoulder turn with the club near parallel at the top (~0.50 s backswing).
  • Hips keep their depth: they do not slide toward the ball.
  • Head ~2–3 in toward the ball and still ~2 in below its address height.

Photo 5 — Arm parallel (down) Good

  • The hands drop down in front of the chest; the lower body starts the downswing.
  • Downswing pace is fast: arm parallel to impact in about 0.13 s.

Photo 6 — Delivery Good

  • The hands are back near their address spot, with the shaft leaning slightly forward.
  • The trail heel starts to lift: the weight is moving to the lead side.

Photo 7 — Impact Head down

  • Clubhead on the ball at 18.23 s; the ball leaves in the next frame.
  • The head is ~5 in lower than at address (same pattern as reports #1–#3).
  • Hips hold their depth (no early extension) for the third 6-iron report in a row.
  • Hands ~2 in toward the ball and ~3 in higher than address.

Photo 8 — Release Good

  • Arms extend toward the target and the chest keeps rotating.
  • The ball is already out of the picture, climbing.

Photo 9 — Finish Excellent

  • Full, balanced finish, belt buckle to the target and the trail toe on the ground.
  • He holds it for several seconds and watches the ball: a sign the sequence held together.

7 Where the 6-iron sits in the bag

6-Iron #3 (best)146 yds150 yds107 mphrange screen
6-Iron #1140 yds149 yds103 mphrange screen

The 6-iron is consistent at ~145–150 yds total. The gap to the 7-iron is still small; bringing the launch down is what will open a clear 10–12 yd step between them.

8 Diagnosis

  1. Head dip (~5 in): it starts in the first 0.2 s of the backswing and never fully comes back up. It's the main source of the high launch in his 6-iron data.
  2. Hips hold depth: three reports in a row now, a stable strength.
  3. Fast downswing, slightly short backswing: 2.3:1. Plenty of speed; a fuller turn would add rhythm without losing it.
  4. Contact: clean and centered on this swing.

9 Next steps — keep it simple

1

Cap on the line

At address, note where the cap sits against the background. Keep it there until the ball is gone. 10 slow swings, then full speed.

2

Hands ahead

Feel the hands over the lead thigh at impact. Target: 16–18° launch with the same speed.

3

Finish the turn

Let the backswing complete (~0.6 s) before starting down. Count "one-and" up, "two" down.

10 Limitations & next capture

Confidence: high on tempo (frame by frame), moderate on head and hip distances (±1 in), moderate on club speed and yardage, low–moderate on ball speed.
